GLOBAL ADS-B AND MLAT NETWORK

ADS-B and MLAT feeds from around the world in one live map.

ADSBItalia aggregates ADS-B feeds and MLAT results from independent feeders into a central backend and publishes them on a live web map. Each station keeps its local setup and contributes to the shared coverage of the network.

The network was born in Italy, but it is now open to contributions from around the world. You can join with a classic installation, with Ultrafeeder/Docker or with any compatible Beast feed, without opening router ports: the feeder sends data to ADSBItalia through outbound connections.

Why ADSBItalia exists

A single ADS-B station is limited by its location, radio horizon and local connection quality. By combining independent feeders, coverage becomes wider, more continuous and more redundant.

ADSBItalia exists to collect these contributions into one technical network: each node sends its data to the central server, which aggregates it and publishes a unified live view. The map is not the showcase of a single antenna, but the result of a network built together.

How the network is designed

Each receiver stays in its own local environment: Raspberry Pi, mini PC, server, Docker or Ultrafeeder. ADSBItalia receives incoming streams, integrates them into the central backend and makes them available on the public map.

The network is designed to grow in an orderly way: backend stability first, then new feeders, MLAT where possible, feed status monitoring and support for multiple ways to participate.

How the network works

The feeder sends its stream to the ADSBItalia server through an outbound connection. The central backend aggregates received data and updates the live map in near real time, keeping feeder-side configuration simple and without port forwarding.

  1. Receive ADS-B traffic with your decoder or Ultrafeeder.
  2. Send the Beast feed and, when configured, MLAT data to ADSBItalia.
  3. Contribute to global coverage and the shared live map.

How to join

You can join using the classic ADSBItalia script method or by adding ADSBItalia directly to your Ultrafeeder/Docker configuration.

In both cases you do not need to replace your main installation: your decoder keeps working normally and ADSBItalia only receives a copy of the feed.

Minimum requirements

  • Active ADS-B receiver.
  • Local Beast feed available or a compatible Ultrafeeder/Docker setup.
  • Stable Internet connection.
  • Ability to send data to ADSBItalia through an outbound connection.
  • Correct coordinates and altitude if you also want to contribute to MLAT.

No port forwarding is required: the feeder sends data out to ADSBItalia. With the classic installation, the script checks the local Beast port; with Ultrafeeder, you just add ADSBItalia as an outbound feeder.

FAQ

Do I need MLAT to participate?

No. ADS-B is enough to join the network. MLAT is optional, but it requires correct feeder position and altitude.

Do I need to replace my main feeder?

No. The goal is to integrate your current setup, not replace it. You can keep using readsb, dump1090, Ultrafeeder or other compatible systems.

Can I participate from any country?

Yes. ADSBItalia keeps its Italian identity, but the network is global and accepts feeders from around the world when they contribute to coverage and service quality.
